We are pleased to report that on the 12th of October 2024, the association successfully organised the “International Youth Fair” in Vilnius, where we discussed the challenges of integrating young people from other countries into Lithuanian society. We offered debates, presentations and other activities in English only to help international students and workers overcome the language barrier and establish contacts with local communities or organisations. We are grateful for the help of various Lithuanian NGOs and youth organisations in coordinating the event. This fair, which took place at the European Humanities University, was one of the main events to mark the conclusion of the Erasmus+ project “Debate, not argue”.
The main activity of the first part of the event was the discussion “Integration of foreign youth in Lithuania: challenges, approaches and building civic society abroad”. The wide-ranging, intensive and informative discussion took place between politicians, students and representatives of various youth organisations. It was moderated by Sergej Stoma, the president of the association, and Emilė Paskočimaitė, the founder of the association and representative of the “Renkuosi mokyti!” initiative. We would like to thank Dovilė Šakalienė, Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Vidmantas Mitkas, Head of the Department for Youth Affairs and Informal Employment of the Vilnius City Government, Hanna Kholad, of the “Goethe”-Institute in Lithuania, Stepan Sodel, a student at the European Humanitarian University, Damian Mialkowskij, a student at the University of Vilnius, and Gustas Juodžbals from the “Active Youth” association.
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to the organisations that agreed to come and provide information about the opportunities for foreign young people to get involved in Lithuania. The second part of the event – the organisations fair – was attended by representatives of the European Humanities University, “Active Youth” Projects, Team Europe Junior, American Councils for International Education, EducationUSA Lithuania, Junior Chamber International, AIESEC Lithuania and the Lithuanian Red Cross Youth Programme.
